Microscopy centre capacity building in Nepal

Posted on: April 02, 2018

Dr Andrew Ramsay, with assistance from Research Associate Bhola Rai (BNMT), has been visiting microscopy centres in southern Nepal to assess current facilities and to deliver intensive training and tailored support to microscopy staff in the IMPACT TB’s four project districts: Makwanpur, Mahotarri, Chitwan and Danusha.

The work they have undertaken has involved basic training in microscope maintenance and GeneXpert assessment and short refresher training at Xpert centres. They have reviewed incoming specimen quality and advised on improving specimen quality. On their return to Kathmandu, they will provide recommendations to BNMT on strengthening strategies for improved sample transport arrangements and waste management facilities at health centres.
