IMPACT TB team participates in 2018 Union Conference on Lung Health
Posted on: November 14, 2018The Union World Conference on Lung Health is the world’s largest gathering of clinicians and public health workers, health programme managers, policymakers and researchers working to end the suffering caused by lung disease, with a focus specifically on the challenges faced by low-and lower-middle income populations. Of the 10 million people who die each year from lung diseases, some 80 percent live in these resource-limited settings.
Our IMPACT partner, KNCV, was the proud local host of the 2018 edition in The Hague welcoming thousands of delegates from 125 countries. Our team was able to present the work of IMPACT to the conference. Dr Maxine Caws, our Principal Investigator based at LSTM, provided an overview of the programme and the progress made to date on scaling up active case finding in Nepal and Vietnam. Olivia Biermann, of Karolinska Institutet, also gave a presentation on the development and implementation of active tuberculosis case finding policies.
We would also like to congratulate Bertie Squire of the IMPACT team at LSTM on becoming an honorary member of The Union.
