MICROSCOPY CENTRE CAPACITY BUILDING IN NEPAL

Prof Andrew Ramsay, with assistance from Research Associate Bhola Rai (BNMT), has been visiting microscopy centres in Nepal to assess current facilities and to deliver intensive training in microscopy management and sputum collection as well as tailored support to laboratory staff in Mahotarri and Bardiya districts.
The work they have undertaken has involved basic training in microscope maintenance and GeneXpert assessment and short refresher training at Xpert centres. They have reviewed incoming specimen quality and advised on improving specimen quality. On their return to Kathmandu, they will provide recommendations to BNMT on strengthening strategies for improved sample transport arrangements and waste management facilities at health centres.
